Web Site - Squeeze Page
Your web site and squeeze page process are critical to building a list. There are several different ways to go about setting up the squeeze page or opt-in area.
One decision you have to make is whether your new visitor can get through to your site without giving you his name and email address first.
One method of gathering subscribers to your list is to add an opt-in box onto your existing homepage of your website. Depending on where you place this opt-in box, and how exciting you make opting in sound, you may get 10 or 20% of your web site visitors to opt in. If you already have a thriving web business, and you are building a list to improve your bottom line and repeat business, then this might be the way to go.
However, what I prefer, is to send all my visitors to a squeeze page that only and specifically asks the visitor to opt-in to my list before they can get to any of my other web pages. The upfront disadvantage to this is that only 50-80% of the people that come to my squeeze page will actually click through, so in theory I lose a few sales from people who would have bought if they had gone directly to my site.
On the other hand, I feel that the business I receive from the repeat visits that are gained via my mailing list, are far more financially valuable than the few sales I lose.
I understand that this may feel counter-intuitive to you, especially if you are already doing a sizable business on your web site. However, the value of your mailing list, when managed properly, should be far more than the value of any one visitor to your site.
If you already have a large web business, the most comfortable thing for you to do will probably be to set up a squeeze page and begin sending some traffic to it. Track it, and compare it with the average revenue per unique visitor on your web site. Once the average revenue per subscriber exceeds your average revenue per unique web site visitor, it should feel like a no-brainer to increase the percentage of your traffic that is directed to your squeeze page first.
