Understanding Panic Attack Symptoms
While many people suffer from panic and anxiety attacks, they frequently do not understand what is actually happening to them due to a misunderstanding of panic attack symptoms. Far too frequently, many people mistake the symptoms of panic attacks for other medical illnesses. One of the most frequent problems occurs when individuals who experience panic attacks mistake the symptoms for heart related conditions, including heart attacks. This commonly occurs due to the similarity between symptoms associated with heart attacks and panic and anxiety attacks. Some of the most common panic attack symptoms include:
- Racing heart
- Weakness or faintness
- Dizziness
- Tingling or numbness in the fingers or hands
- Sense of terror or impending death or doom
- Sweating
- Chills
- Chest pains
- Breathing problems
- Feeling a loss of control
Another major distinction between panic attacks and other medical conditions is the presence of extreme fear with panic attacks.
The symptoms of panic attacks can vary from one individual to another. In addition, it is important to understand that symptoms can vary from attack to the next. It is not uncommon for an individual to experience one set of symptoms with one attack and another set of symptoms with a subsequent attack. For this reason, it is important to recognize that you might have a symptom that is not generally experienced but could still be linked to the presence of a panic disorder.
Typically, in order for an attack to be considered as an actual panic attack you must have four or more of the most common symptoms, listed above. If you have fewer symptoms; however, your attack could still be classified as a limited symptom attack.
It is also possible to experience times of extremely high anxiety that are not technically described as a panic attack but are nonetheless disturbing. It is also important to understand that while the symptoms of panic attacks generally peak within 10 minutes or so, in some instances the symptoms could last as long as a day. Also, in other cases, an individual could experience multiple attacks with symptoms so closely spaced together that it makes it difficult to discern when each individual attack peaks.
If you believe that you may suffer from panic attacks, or even high amounts of anxiety, it is important to find out ways in which you can treat your anxiety and panic. This is particularly important as individuals who experience one panic attack are at a higher risk for experiencing further attacks. Panic attacks and panic disorder can also lead to other problems, such as social avoidance behavior and agoraphobia. There are numerous all natural techniques and methods which can be used to reduce and even eliminate panic attack symptoms.
