List Building - Your First 100 Subscribers
List Building is so exciting. But the first few hundred subscribers are a bear. You see, they come in so slow, and it is hard to test anything when you only have 10 or 20 new subscribers (or less) each day.
So you simply have to step out in faith, and collect the subscribers, realizing that you will have to wait until you have a few hundred to begin to make meaningful changes to your email campaign and your squeeze page sequence. You see, not everyone will open every email, and you need at least a few hundred responses from each email to understand which emails are really working and which are not.
So what do you do?
Start with a squeeze page. Once you have it set, and you are sending traffic to it, do not change it for 100 visits to the squeeze page. Once you have 100 visits, you can evaluate your opt in conversion rate. If it is good, leave it alone. If you do not like it, make some changes to it. Then track another 100 visitors to the squeeze page.
A conversion rate of about 30% or better is considered decent, although I have had some pages with some traffic that have gotten around 70%. But once it gets to 30% or better, just assume you can make small changes but do not radically work it over at least until you have a few thousand subscribers.
Continue to add subscribers until you have at least 100. This will allow you to begin testing of open rates on your first series of emails.
