List Building - Essential List Building Checklist

Whether you wish to begin your own email list or you already have what you think is a formidable one, run an eye over the check list below and see if it can help in any which way.

Are your sign-ups easy? The size of your sign-up form is inversely proportionate to the number of people who will actually complete it. Stick to an email ID and a Submit button and see how your email lists fatten up. Also, the link to sign up must be visibly placed on all pages of your site no one is going to spend a minute hunting for it.

Do you request for it in everywhere? Auto responder emails, blog posts, forums, discussions, casual or confirmation emails, referrals, testimonials, et al. Your request to sign up even for a free ezine should appear everywhere. And dont forget the old media put it in leaflets, brochures, print articles, seminars, presentations, etc should all have a link to your sign-up page.

Do you ask friends? STAF or Send to a Friend is one of the critical ways of expanding your email lists. STAF also leads to word of mouth referrals, forwards, recommendations, etc.

Are you requests easy and interesting? Is your text easy to read, does it compel a person to read further? Does it tease and tantalize and does it excite curiosity and a desire to sign up?

Remember, someone is surrendering their email ID with the possibility of attracting more spam and therefore, your aim should be to make it impossible for them to go away without signing up.
