This Kenya safari park lodge is worth a trip because of its magnificent setting in the heart of Tsavo West Park with views of the Chyulus Hills and the snowy peaks of Kilimanjaro. First built in 1962, Kilaguni was the first luxury Kenya safari park lodge in Kenya.
The main Kenya safari park lodge building is newly rebuilt and inviting with tall thatch roof and one whole side open to the view and a waterhole which attracts large numbers of zebra, buffalo, elephant, impala, baboon and warthog. Beyond the rustic reception area, the dining room and bar/ lounge share the open-sided view.
The 53 guest rooms are simply furnished and have full private bathrooms. Each rooms veranda overlooks the waterhole and Mt. Kilimanjaro. All the rooms are undergoing renovation and a separate VIP cottage and anew wing of superior rooms have been added.
The meandering wings of the Kenya safari park lodge set off lovely interior grounds filled with rock gardens, bougainvillea and other colorful tropical plants. The rock gardens are home to nearly tame hyraxes playing hide-and-seek among the rocks along the pathways and near the swimming pool. The pool is has been repainted, and is still operational with the adams and eve dressing room signs appropriate in this eden-like setting.

Ngulia Safari Lodge in Kenya
Located in the Tsavo West National Park 290 kilometers from Nairobi, Ngulia safari park lodge has spectacular site. The top of a rocky outcrop has been carved into two flat terraces for the Kenya safari park lodge buildings and swimming pool. One side of the site is a sheer cliff dropping off to the yatta plateau below. The two-story stone Kenya safari park lodge rises at the edge of the cliff to overlook a grassy water hole. Game from the surrounding hills are frequent visitors day and night.
You walk through reception and up to the open-sided view terrace and dining room, which echo under high ceiling with excited guests lining the balustrade to see animals at the water hole below. Bait is left each evening for rhino and leopards and the water hole is flood lit for night game viewing.
The 52 guest rooms are located on two floors to one side of the safari park lodge. All have twin beds with mosquito nets, balconies and en suite bathrooms. Extra beds are available for families.
There is a small, but sparkling swimming pool in the rock gardens at the side of the dining room. Nearby, a breathtaking covered viewpoint teeters at the very edge of the cliff where the view is unbroken and without measure.
Al guests are on full board, with breakfast and lunch served from the buffet. Diner is served by candle light.
Ngulia safari lodge caters to a mixed clientele of international tour groups.
Ngulia lodge is the only place that you are assured of seeing a leopard through their baiting trick. I have personally counted not less than five leopards in a single night on that track that leads to Ngulia. They actually warn guests from taking walks at dusk due to several leopards circling the hotel at night trying to get to the bait. Whether this is right or wrong is purely an individuals taste.
