How to Move Green - Moving with Kids - Section 1
Moving can be a very thrilling and challenging experience all at the same time. It is important for you to recognize, as a parent, that this experience can be very hard on your kids. You can help them through this challenging time by getting them involved.
Explain The Process
It has been assumed for years that the less time your kids have to sit and reflect on the moving process, the easier it would be for them. Recently, however, some experts now believe the opposite to be true. Your kids will need time to reflect and get used to the moving process. Be sure to speak with your kids once the decision to move has been made. Be attentive to their reactions and concerns, and let them know that you are there to help and listen to any questions or fears that they may have about moving.
Getting Involved
A great way to get your child excited about your move is to get them involved in the process. Explain to them how the entire process works from beginning to end, and how much you will need their help in that process. A few of the items that we will look at in our next articles about moving with kids will be what are some of the more specific tasks that can help them through moving. As an example, this includes such things as having them help with sorting and packing your household items.
Going Green
Let your child know why you have decided to make your move as green as possible, and give them your definition of the word green and how it relates to things like packing materials. Explain to your child that the environment is a sacred and important place that needs to be nurtured and protected. Show them that you can help the environment by being aware of what types and how much packing material is used, and what items should be a recycled. Some children may not be too enthusiastic, however, the moving process allows for a great opportunity to teach them the importance of being green and how they can make a difference.
