Keyword Research - Finding A Niche Topic For Your List

One of the most important parts of building a list is finding the niche topic that you will target your list at.

So many times people have told me I have picked xyz topic and Im going to build my list about that. I then ask them; have you done any keyword research on this topic to see what kind of traffic you will get? Usually the reply is no.

You simply cannot fly blind when youre choosing a topic. You need to know:
-What keyword phrases to use.
-What kind of traffic you can drive to your keywords
-What kind of competition you are facing for those keywords.

So the first thing you will need to do is keyword research.
When doing keyword research you are going to want to spend a lot of time choosing the right keyword phrases. You are going to need to use a good keyword research tool. There are some things to know about keyword research tools. There are many of them out there but you need to know where is the data coming from to determine the information you are being given.

If you dont know where the data is coming from you really dont know how accurate the results will be.

Many will tell you to use overture (Now called Yahoo Search Marketing). Overture has been around for a long time and the information you are being returned is on the previous 30 days searches. Also important to note is that all the queries being done for research on pay per click advertising also count as a search. This means that the results you get from overture are not that accurate. Also since they only show the last 30 days its hard to do research on holiday keywords since that month may have been months prior. The nice thing about overture is it is a free tool.

Another very popular research tool is Word Tracker. Now word tracker has data for a much longer period of time and they get there data from the meta search engines which doesnt have pay per click advertising so there data is much more accurate. The downside of word tracker is that the meta search data that they use only represents about 9% of the total searches done on the internet. Word tracker is very good if you are just looking for the latest trend keywords. Word tracker is pricey if you will be doing a lot of ongoing keyword research.

Keyword Discovery has data from many of the top search engines. There data is for a year and they cover almost the whole pie when it comes to where the search data comes from.

My favorite is NicheBot. NicheBot has contracts with Word Tracker, Keyword Discovery, Google, Overture and a few others and this is one of the best keyword research tools available they have very good tutorials to walk you through the whole process of finding keywords. Using NicheBot you will be able to get the largest list of keywords to work with on your list. Pricing is very fair with a $1 trial offer and reasonable monthly membership fees.

Now that you know which tools to do your research with and why you need to know where the data is coming from lets talk about the keywords a bit.

While doing your research find every keyword possible that has decent traffic but is not too competitive. The keywords will usually be two or three word keyword phrases. The term is called long tail. You are going to have to select the main one or two keywords for the site but keep the other keywords so you can write articles and use them to drive traffic to the site.

So just to summarize:

  • You want to use a good keyword research tool one that has data that will give you the most accurate results.
  • You want to find targeted keyword phrases that are about your list topic.
  • You want to choose the one or two best keywords to target your list with.
  • The remaining keywords can be used to drive traffic to your site.
  • After using the information contained in this document you should be able to easily pick a niche topic for your list.

    A name squeeze page is just a simple webpage designed with the sole purpose of collecting leads. Name squeeze pages have been used by marketers quite successfully for a variety of purposes. The primary purpose is to build a list of subscribers who you can then make offers to.

    You probably heard of the saying the money is in the list. A name squeeze page is a very effective way of getting people to your list. Since visitors only has 2 choices when you reach a name squeeze page. They either opt in to your list or hit the back button. By limiting the choices visitors have, you can get a better response which is to sign up to your list.

    A name squeeze page does not have to be fancy. In fact, from my testing a simple webpage with 2 to 3 paragraphs of text on a white background works best for me. No fancy graphics, no flash and no animated text etc.

    Nowadays with so such spam email flooding into peoples inbox, people are getting irrated by emails all the time and its only going to get harder and harder to get visitors to give you their email addresses.

    In order to get the visitors email address, sometimes you need a bait. It could be a free report or a piece of software related to what they were interested in. In order to get it, they would have to sign up to your list first.

    Another important point to note is most autoresponders require double opt-in confirmation to comply with the Can Spam Act. This means the subscribers need to check their inbox and click on the confirm to subscribe link in order for him/her to be added to your list.

    You must stated this clearly on your name squeeze page or on the following webpage after they have signed up. Believe me, there are visitors who do not know they need to double opt-in after signing up to your list. This is particularly true for non internet marketing niches.

    You might want to also phrase your words carefully since most people outside of internet marketing do not know what double opt-in means.

    Name squeeze pages works. Thats why you probably see a lot of marketers use this technique to build large lists of subscribers. If you are in the business of lead generation, then name squeeze pages are important to you and you should get one up as soon as possible.

    Opt In List Building

    Opt In list building is where I spend the bulk of my time online, after article marketing. I use article marketing to drive traffic to my squeeze pages, and then focus on opt in list building to create profits online.

    Opt in list building is one of my favorite topics, and it is the one thing I spend the most time on online. Although I write a lot of articles, and I guess that time could be indexed under article writing, my primary purpose in writing articles is to build my opt in list. I just figure that if I write an article on a topic that interests someone, and they read it and like it, they will opt in to my list. They are really the very best subscribers, because they already like me.

    So how do you opt in list build for maximum profits? How do you structure things so that they make you the most amount of money?

    Of course, at this point, I am assuming that you already know the basics of opt in list building.

    So how do you list build for profit and for long term viability?

    1) You must have the end in mind when you do anything online. For me, the end is making money from my subscribers I offer them exceptional value, and they pay me for it. So even though I send out a ton of free gifts I am doing it with the purpose of building this incredible relationship, one in which they will eventually spend more money with me. I want my subscribers to see that they get maximum value out of the time they spend opening my emails.

    2) You must consistently look for opportunities to make money. When you subscribe to my lists you will see that not only do I deliver excellent value, but I am consistently presenting my readers opportunities to increase their own knowledge online by purchasing information or tools from me. By the way, I make it real easy for people to opt out, or to get a refund if they dont like something. You have to be balanced in everything you do, while keeping the profit motive at the top of your mind.

    Opt in list building really can be the most profitable thing you do online, you just have to make it that way.

    Asking for only their first name gives them the feeling of security that you dont want to know who they are, but that you only want to send them information. Your button should simply say Send me more information. Alternatively make it even better and have a clickable phrase such as YES! Show Me how to Cure my Slice! or Send Me your FREE REPORT on Ad Tracking!

    Ideally you should be able to present all you have to say without them having to scroll down. The secret of retaining interest and capturing an email address is to make the visitor do as little as possible. At best, to just press one key or make one click, but that is not always possible. Many, however, will have password security software that also fills in all their forms, and one click will literally give you their first name and email address.

    Try to give your visitor the option only of filling the form for more information or leaving the page. Dont put any Adsense on it or even a link to a sales page. You will confuse them and possibly lose what you want: their email address.

    What you should do is test conversion rates with different ads. Change the ads and fonts. Try putting the clickable text in the normal blue, and try it in red. Compare results. If you do this, please only make one change at a time or you wont know which the important one was. Some changes might be negative, but even negative results are useful.

    Finally, just a few words if you are using Google. They have introduced some rules on squeeze pages in Adwords. It cannot be the only page on your website, there should be links on it leading to similar pages on your own and other sites (put them at the bottom in small type so that they are not noticed), and they should contain at least 200 words. It should not be too difficult, but otherwise just dont use Adwords to advertise!

    If you follow this advice on how to create a squeeze page, you should be able to quickly build a list that will provide you with sales for years to come. You can also offer a partners product to your list, your joint partner doing the same for you. The money is in the list a squeeze page is how to build it.

    A good list is essential to maximize your online earnings. In fact, those with large lists tend to make five to ten times as much money over time as those without a list. But how do you get started building a list?

    The first thing you need to develop a list is a good squeeze page. A squeeze page is a page on your website that has one purpose. Its job is to convince people to subscribe to your list. Following are the characteristics of a great squeeze page.

    1. A good squeeze page should look like a mini sales page.

    2. Include a large headline at the top of the page that stands out and announces your primary benefit.

    3. Do not place ads of any kind on the page. You do not want to give your visitor any opportunity to click off your page.

    4. Provide five to ten bulleted benefits that describe the advantages of subscribing to your list.

    5. Make sure that your opt in box shows above the fold. This means that your visitor will see the opt in box as soon as he arrives at your site without having to move the mouse or screen at all.

    6. Ask only for the information you need in your opt in box. The more information you request, the fewer subscriptions you will get. If possible, ask only for their name and email address.

    7. Post a privacy statement that tells visitors that their information will not be sold or shared in any way.

    By building a squeeze page using the 7 characteristics above, you are well on you way to developing a large and profitable list.

    Business List Mailing - Getting Your Email Opened

    These days whatever your business, as well as your online presence, capturing names and emails of potential customers and customers should be high on your list of priorities. It doesnt matter what business youre in, theres likely to be a very good reason to build your business list.

    Take for example a hairdressing salon. Probably not much requirement for an online presence is there? By capturing all of their customers names and email addresses over a period of time and sending a regular email newsletter the salon can dramatically improve its bottom line. How? If there were only a few bookings the following week, one quick personalised email through an autoresponder with a special discount to all their customers should get the phone ringing.

    When conducting mailings to your email or business list its important to plan the email that you send meticulously. Each part of the email should have a specific goal. The goal of the subject line is to get the email opened. The goal of the first paragraph is to get the next one read and so on. The goal of the last paragraph is to get the email acted upon and get your click, call or whatever it is you want to achieve.

    So what can you do to get your email opened? Quite simply this is completely dependent on your subject line. Thats it! Thats all youve got to help someone make the correct decision to open your email.

    Some of you from big companies may be a little put off by what Im about to say as it can go against your marketing training but Ill draw a quick analogy to snail mail marketing. When you pick up your post can you tell which is junk mail and which looks like a personal letter? Of course you can and junk mail normally gets filed in the bin doesnt it? Never even opened! (If companies could handwrite every letter and put a stamp on it theyd get a much better response!)

    So what can you do with the subject line? Quite a lot really.

    1. Use the persons name in the subject line. Were all interested in our name, whether its spoken or written. Your name seems to leap off the page and shout for your attention. Use this to your advantage, use their name.

    2. Use lowercase. Thats how friends write to each other. Theres much more chance of them opening your email if it might be from someone they know!

    3. Use the words you, your or youll. This speaks directly to the person and focuses their attention on your email!

    4. Use three dots as in at the end of the subject line. This invites the person to read more.

    5. Be controversial. If you know your lists demographic and what theyre interested in you can play on this. Put a twist on a subject you know theyll be interested in and watch your open rates skyrocket.

    List Building How List Building Gives Me Freedom

    List building has become one of the most incredibly easy ways to make money online, for the savvy internet marketer who masters the art of building a relationship with his opt in email list subscribers.

    Now, how does list building give me freedom?

    Well, first of all, what is freedom?

    To me, freedom is knowing that I will receive roughly the same amount of money every single day, in my web business. Because this is my full time and only income, and I have bills to pay just like any 9-5 worker, I have to have a consistent income.

    Well, one of the problems with just getting income from traffic driven to web pages, is that the traffic may go up and down over time and with time, or depending on how much traffic I generate. If I buy traffic, the quality of that traffic might go up or down with time.

    The thing about my list, it stays the same from day to day. People on my list open my emails in a predictable fashion, a certain percentage opening them everyday. Same thing with clickthrough rates they are relatively constant. And since the size of my list is constantly growing, my sales base is consistently increasing it is generally not very sporadic.

    This gives me incredible freedom. I can take time off from the internet, and predict the amount of money I will make while I am gone. I can predict the amount of money I will make if I write 20 new articles; I can predict the amount of money I will make if I mail a specific email to my list.

    List Building Advanced - Article Marketing for List Building I

    Article marketing is an ideal tool for list building, and can work in many ways to attract visitors to your site. You should start by writing an article that presents useful information on the subject of your web site, or the market to which you are trying to sell.

    The information should be useful, and the article should contain real content, since is purpose is to attract readers to your web site for more information on what you are writing. For this reason the article must also be well written, free from spelling mistakes, and as grammatical as you can make it. If you are not sure, then have it professionally written.

    Now write your biography. This need not be a life history, and in fact many simply state in their bio or authors resource box, that the reader can find further information on the authors web site. You must provide a link to a page on your site that is relevant to the topic you have written about. If you are writing about a product you are selling, you should send them to your sales page.

    There are two ways in which you can use article marketing for list building. Now that your article is complete, with bio box added at the end, you could offer it as a free bonus to anybody who visits your website for signing up to join your list. Only those interested in the content of the article will sign up, so your list will consist of targeted visitors.

    List Building Takes Time - You Must Have Perseverance

    List building is so hyped these days online and rightly so it really works for me and for others who are actively building relationships online.

    You see, list building should really be called relationship building then a lot of the people who think they are list building would not be able to call themselves relationship builders and they would be the ones who fail.

    List building takes time to learn to do effectively. You will be learning a brand new method of building relationships, and the optimal ways to do that are not the same as many offline relationship building techniques.

    When you first get started, you will build a squeeze page or two. They will not be the best squeeze pages you could possibly create. Through testing and making changes, your squeeze pages will improve over time. Your email writing skills will improve over time. And over time, your squeeze pages and emails will begin to convert at a higher and higher rate.

    Depending on how you drive traffic to your web site and the price which you pay for that traffic, you may not make a profit the first month with your list. You might actually lose money.

    The following month, as you become better at targeting the correct traffic to your web site, and you develop squeeze pages that convert at higher rates, and as you learn to write emails that are more effective, you will increase your profitability. And as you continue to learn, test, and make changes, you should make increases in profitability each and every month.

    If you are interested in making a go of list building, there are some wonderful secrets that you need to know and understand in order to better enjoy and make money through your list building efforts.

    First of all, when it comes to successful list building, it is important to make certain that you cover all of your legal requirements. Nothing is more serious that not following the rules and the laws when it comes to list building online in this century. Therefore, in order to ensure that you enjoy the list building process, and to ensure that you end up making money in the short and the long run through list building, you need to make sure that you do cover all of your legal bases.

    Second, list building is a process. The bottom line is that you never are done with list building or development. If you want to be successful on all levels with list building, you need to understand that you will constantly and continually need to revise and adjust your lists. If for no other reason it is vital to keep your lists current and up to date for them to be effective in the first place. If you lists are not current and those receiving your emails do not want the information, you are wasting their time not to mention yours.

    By following these tips and pointers, by understanding these secrets, you will be on your way to an enjoyable and profitable list building experience. You will turn list building into an all around enjoyable and profitable experience.
